چکیده

Spectroscopic observations at 2.4 – 45 μm of the young supernova remnant Cas A with the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) Short Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) reveal strong emission lines of O, Ne, Si, S, and Ar. These lines are observed at high velocities (several 10 km s), and are therefore associated with the supernova ejecta known as the fast-moving knots (FMKs). Continuum emission from dust is also seen in the Cas A spectrum. The continuum strength is spatially well correlated with the O and Ar line strengths, indicating that the dust emission also arises from the FMKs. The dust continuum has an emission feature at ∼22 μm which cannot be fit by typical astronomical silicates, but can be fit with a particular class of silicate minerals. This suggests that the dust in Cas A is silicate material that has freshly condensed from the Cas A ejecta into a mineral form that is uncharacteristic of typical ISM dust grains. Subject headings: infrared: ISM: continuum — infrared: ISM: lines and bands — dust, extinction — ISM: individual (Cassiopeia A) — supernova remnants

We report the detection of a broad 22 μm emission feature in the Carina nebula H II region by the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO) Short Wavelength Spectrometer. The feature shape is similar to that of the 22 μm emission feature of newly synthesized dust observed in the Cassiopeia A supernova remnant. This finding suggests that both of the features are arising from the same carrier, and that su...

Infrared echoes near the supernova remnant Cassiopeia A.

Two images of Cassiopeia A obtained at 24 micrometers with the Spitzer Space Telescope over a 1-year time interval show moving structures outside the shell of the supernova remnant to a distance of more than 20 arc minutes. Individual features exhibit apparent motions of 10 to 20 arc seconds per year, independently confirmed by near-infrared observations. The observed tangential velocities are ...

Dust formation in the Cassiopeia A supernova

High angular resolution (6") spectro-imaging observations of Cassiopeia A, the youngest supernova remnant of our galaxy, were performed with ISOCAM, the mid-infrared camera on board of the Infrared Space Observatory (ISO). The remnant was fully mapped with the LW8 filter (10.7-12 m), which probes mainly dust thermal emission. Emission is seen both from the blast wave region and the inner region...

Phosphorus in the young supernova remnant Cassiopeia A.

Phosphorus ((31)P), which is essential for life, is thought to be synthesized in massive stars and dispersed into interstellar space when these stars explode as supernovae (SNe). Here, we report on near-infrared spectroscopic observations of the young SN remnant Cassiopeia A, which show that the abundance ratio of phosphorus to the major nucleosynthetic product iron ((56)Fe) in SN material is u...

Freshly Formed Dust in the Cassiopeia a Supernova Remnant as Revealed by the Spitzer Space Telescope

We performed Spitzer Infrared Spectrograph mapping observations covering nearly the entire extent of the Cassiopeia A supernova remnant (SNR), producing mid-infrared (5.5Y35 m) spectra every 500Y10 00. Gas lines of Ar, Ne, O, Si, S, and Fe, and dust continua were strong for most positions. We identify three distinct ejecta dust populations based on their continuum shapes. The dominant dust cont...
